The Prosecutor's guide to Mental Illness is separated into three detailed parts to identify problems and solutions within the topic of justice and mental illness. An overview of intellectual and developmental disabilities and mental illness, prosecutors, approaches for working with people with I/DD or mental illness, and lastly, prosecutors-involved initiatives. The authors advise prosecutors to enhance their knowledge and improve processes within the prosecution sphere that takes I/DD and mental illness into account to benefit both individuals with I/DD or mental illness and the community. The mission of the Prosecutors' Center for Excellence is to create a better justice system by identifying, evaluating, and implementing best practices for modern prosecutors.

The Arc promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes. NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.
