Keeping Up With the Changing Landscape of Drugs of Abuse: What Do the Data Say?

This article provides examples of of local, state, and national efforts aimed at tracking a the supplies of illicit substances, including opioids and stimulants. All three agencies aim to collect data from a number of sources, including fire/emergency medical services (EMS) departments and law enforcement agencies in order to help to utilize reliable and timely data. These efforts can help serve as models for other jurisdictions, whether state or local, looking to implement similar types of data collection systems. BJA provides leadership and services in grant administration and criminal justice policy development to support local, state, and tribal law enforcement in achieving safer communities.
