In Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, and Palm Beach County, Florida, a three-year pilot project was conducted to assess corrections, workforce development, and employment-focused reentry agencies to provide services by the evidence-based practices. The study used a mixed-method process evaluation collecting quantitative analysis of participant case files and qualitative data. These include document review, surveys administered to staff conducting risk, need job-readiness assessments, semi-structured interviews, and focus groups correctional staff, community-based providers, and program participants. Researchers recommended 4 different lessoned learned from the pilot program: Screening, Job-Readiness Assessments, and Information Sharing, Stakeholder Engagement and Commitment to Vision, Mission, and Goals, Service Capacity, Tracking Progress, and ongoing Evaluation of Services, Participant Motivation

The National Reentry Resource Center (NRRC) is administered by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance and was established by the Second Chance Act (Public Law 110-199). The Council of State Government Justice Center develops research-driven strategies to increase public safety and strengthen communities. The center provides in-depth data analyses, coupled with extensive interviews of people on the front lines of the criminal justice system, inform improvements and spur national initiatives.
