Assessing Judicial Sentencing Preferences After Public Safety Realignment: A Survey of California Judges (2014)
Stanford Criminal Justice Center -
A study examining effects of AB 109 on superior court judges' decision making in California. Data comes from a survey of 112 judges in California asking judges about sentencing choice between felony probation and new California Penal Code §1170(h) county jail sentences. Study highlights more than half of judges surveyed preferred an 1170(h) sentence. Results emphasize that California Legislation and judiciary should clarify relationship between felony probation and an 1170(h) sentence and formulate a consensus of how to use split sentencing.
The Stanford Criminal Justice Center (SCJC) serves as a research and policy institute on issues related to the criminal justice system.
