Criminal Justice Realignment: A Prosecutor’s Perspective (2013)
Federal Sentencing Reporter, vol. 25, No. 4 -
A district attorney’s perspective on the impacts of realignment and the changing landscape of California’s criminal justice system including sentencing reform and mandatory supervision. Provides critical discussion of pre- and post-AB 109 corrections strategies and the evolving role of prosecutors, judges, and probation officers. Stresses the practitioner “culture shift” necessary to effectively implement reform post-AB 109 and emphasizes the importance of shifting the marker of success from process efficiency to reducing recidivism and producing productive members of society.
Lisa Rodriguez served as a deputy district attorney for San Diego County from 1998 to 2015. The Vera Institute of Justice is a non- profit dedicated to correcting injustice within the criminal justice system through evidence-based research.
