Article on assessment tools intended to determine offender punishment and treatment to prevent future crimes. Instruments in article are meant to assist in identifying behavior of individuals that indicate risk of reoffending. Study of 44 halfway house programs in Ohio in 2010 demonstrates effectiveness of using risk level to match offenders to programs. Study claims that matching assessed individual risk of reoffending to treatment and supervision significantly improves offender outcome and reduces recidivism.
