Shock Probation: A Natural Experiment On The Effect of A Short Period of Incarceration (1977)
The Prison Journal Volume: 57 Issue: 1, page(s): 45-52 -
A scientific article conducted in 1977 on 418 male inmates released from Ohio Prisons during 1969 and 136 female felons released between 1966 and 1970 in Ohio under Shock probation. Shock probation was intended to allow Ohio's judges to place a convicted felon in prison for 30 to 100 days. The authors data suggests that people with relatively less arrests, convictions, and previous prison sentences would be especially in "good" risks under such a system while younger felons would be in "poor" risk.
